Titled, The banana as we know it is doomed, the article discusses the disease threat looming over a monoculture banana (Cavendish) and the race to find or develop a suitable replacement with disease resistance. Iorizzo describes his strategy as working to “understand the genetic mechanism behind disease resistance, and then figure out a plan for transferring that resistance over the long term.”
